Including movement in lessons is something that truly can help regain focus. Students are being asked to do so much more in their regular classrooms that could cause them a true need to move their little bodies around and get that blood flowing again. I was taught to rotate activities of concentration vs. relaxation throughout my music class lessons and this is one game that has stood the test of time over the last 18 years with many different grade levels.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>"Put the BEAT in your FEET"</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A super fun and simple <b>game</b> that can be used for any grade level and the kids love it!<br />
You can even use it for music sub plans!</div>
<br />
<b>TEMPO Identify GAME:</b><br />
<ul>
<li>Students in standing circle</li>
<li>Teacher uses Temple Blocks and plays a steady beat</li>
<li>Students must “match the beat with their feet.” They must (march) in place UNLESS you say “TRAVEL.” (I make sure to remind them before I start by counting off "In your place, ready go" - When you stop, their feet must stop. </li>
<li>Ask them to raise their hand and identify the tempo (fast, slow, medium). </li>
<li>If correct, change the tempo and play again. When you feel like they're really focused on listening and ready, they can travel around the room matching the beat to their feet. They love this game! </li>
<li>Make sure they identify the speed correctly. To differentiate for upper elementary grades, give them 3 "Tempo" choices and reinforce that music vocabulary! (Largo, Presto, Andante, etc.) I have different tempo visuals posted, so I direct their attention to the Tempo Wall.</li>
<li>And of course, to make it more challenging, you can choose to add in the old "If you move, you're out," or even have individuals play the temple blocks! Just another trick to keep students engaged.</li>
<li>{Music Class Transition Idea} During my lessons, I like to have the kids come in and sit on their carpet spots, but throughout the lesson, we "travel" to different places in the room. Playing this little game can work as a transition. And, it works well to help quietly transition those very energetic and chatty classes. I'll say, "Put the beat, in your feet," travel to ......."Singing Street" or wherever our next learning spot will be. </li>
</ul>
<div>
Give it a try! Please comment if you have a short and sweet no-fail game that helps reinforce a concept.</div>

1) First, a resource from my store that I'm excited to be selling: "The Case of the 3 Sneaky Singing Snails." I have a Sol-La-Mi set and a Sol-Mi set available. Your students are asked in these interactive PDF games to help the detective find the 3 "sneaky snails" who have stolen melody patterns. The only way they can find out if they caught a snail is to sing a melodic pattern correctly. There are 2 different cases so that you can play this game during more than one lesson and also adorable flashcards with melodic patterns starring the "sneaky snails." I have a wonderful music teacher buddy who has the S-M-L set and he told me to introduce the game, he sat at his piano and said, "Oh no, boys and girls! I can't remember the melody! I wonder if it was the sneaky snails!!!" And they ate it up. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizRxzFSVp2T9Wd6TAubKsP1E9cZxNeyJACEE9nJvK0TNO6OLtPe6XGiEKWJ2srTq40e0psb5bUwqy98dmYNdWzb9bBHD4jDNwShNhrQZZCGkX69oQa4H2r2Z-er7e08lNuuZk9G0va7Yk/s1600/Slide1.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> </a><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last Summer, I had discovered Jennifer's awesome blog called "The Yellow Brick Road" via Pinterest. Well, she had written about using these adorable "Rhythm Monsters" made from googly eyes and pom-poms - I was so inspired, I ran out to Michael's Arts & Crafts and made my own set which the kids BEG to use! Now, she just recently posted this set above which is an interactive game is an "interactive game, in which students practice or review rhythms by
speaking, clapping, or performing on rhythm instruments. The game
introduces students to the rhythm monsters, friendly characters who use
the special language of rhythm to communicate." And there are printable worksheets, too! Yep, I need it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3) And finally, a clip art set I just have to have! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Educlips Ice Cream set has been on my wishlist and I'm drooling for it! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
LOL - could it be the pregnancy cravings?</div>

<br />
My post today is about my magical wind chimes. Yep, they're truly "magical" in my little music world. Well, at least for behavior management!!! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLXkVPCk2-ZYIXM45Sy0jDParPVDjTNDg95a0gSq1ye88xZRHbJygMG_RDBBbL2ke5l_dHoBMAbQ72El6mn7eQvi6d_14axHv8FPpqzscHWlDY-vGrhRSjtPGd8bJhxP7ufJlK9rAv5mE/s1600/IMAG0025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLXkVPCk2-ZYIXM45Sy0jDParPVDjTNDg95a0gSq1ye88xZRHbJygMG_RDBBbL2ke5l_dHoBMAbQ72El6mn7eQvi6d_14axHv8FPpqzscHWlDY-vGrhRSjtPGd8bJhxP7ufJlK9rAv5mE/s1600/IMAG0025.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Years ago, I was teaching a very chatty first grade class and trying so hard to come up with something...anything to grab their attention and keep it. I am still not sure how I came up with this and how it worked and has continued to work for years, but I would bet money on the fact that it works because kids WANT to use their imaginations naturally. So....this is what happened one very magical music class: </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
"Boys and Girls, the strangest thing happened the other day! I was teaching a class and by mistake I came over here and played the beautiful sound of these wind chimes and the next thing you know...my whole class just...fell asleep!!! The WHOLE class. AND then, the STRANGEST thing happened, when I played the wind chimes again, the class woke up, BUT, they had NO idea that they fell asleep. They just sat up, looked at me, and smiled, like nothing had happened at all. It was so magical. I mean, I wonder if it only works on that class....or maybe just on amazing listeners out there....I mean...I wonder...would it...maybe work...on well....no...I don't think so.....well, maybe I should just try.....(cue the wind chimes...and down they go with a giggle!!! Silently "asleep") WHAT in the world just happened!?! These MUST be MAGICAL wind chimes! Wow! I wonder if I play them again...(they all wake up and look around). "Kids! You fell asleep!" "huh? no we didn't...etc." - I mean, no way would it ever work more than once" (wind chimes - down they go...giggles, etc.) And so on. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They. LOVE. this.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
From the day I introduce this, I now have one of the BEST classroom management tools ever. Simply play the wind chimes....kids automatically "fall asleep" and I can teach while they're silently attentive! I use this for all of my "listening lessons." They love it and ask me if we are going to play the "wind chime" game constantly. I use it with my "Carnival of the Animals" unit when I want them to focus their listening. I can tell you that I've had less than a hand full of "non-believers," but with a little persuasion, eventually, they cave in. I usually just say, "Well, these really only work on the best listeners..." and MOST of the time they lie down...only once in 15 years, have I actually said to a child, just play along and have fun with us. Again, deep down, it's all about "play" and using their imaginations - for most, it's just natural. I love their "acting" skills, too. "What? Who me? I wasn't sleeping." hahaha! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have to also share that one year, we had a part-time music position added to our school. This teacher had some 1st grade classes with students I had the previous year. She was teaching a lesson and singing a song where there were wind chime parts and played them - to suddenly find....lol......her whole class laying down on the floor pretending to be asleep!!! hahahahahaaaa! Oh my goodness did I crack up laughing when she told me this - I remember her describing it as turning around and seeing her class of "narcoleptic children and being totally confused." They told her later about the magic wind chimes - but what a gift to know that my silly idea had STUCK with them. Ha!!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, that's my idea that TRULY "Worked" for me. I hope you enjoyed it! Please feel free to comment below if you enjoyed this post or even share something that completely has "worked" for you in your music classroom. Thanks for stopping by! </div>

For this linky party, we're asked to share a resource from our own <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Totallytunedinteacher" target="_blank">TpT Store</a> that we use and love. Something I am so excited to share with you are my newest creations for my classroom! With the adorable clip art by Susanna at "<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Whimsy-Workshop-Teaching" target="_blank">Whimsy Workshop</a>," I created, <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Rhythm-Reindeer-1-Ta-Ti-Ti-Rhythm-Pattern-Fun-1576296" target="_blank">Rhythm Reindeer Sets 1</a> & <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Rhythm-Reindeer-2-Quarter-Rest-Rhythm-Pattern-Fun-1584977" target="_blank">2.</a><a href="https://www.blogger.com/null"> </a> </div>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The best part about these sets is that I made them so
the set can be used across 4-5 lessons. During the first lesson, I introduce the kids to my "new friends" - the "Rhythm Reindeer!"
Aren't they adorable? I mean, aDEERable? </div>

My first graders ask me what
their names are - lol! Then, I challenge the students to be able to
clap/speak 16 patterns...and I ask for a volunteer score keeper (they
love this job.) This takes maybe 5-7 minutes to go thru and then I tell
them next music, they'll visit again, but with a challenge! The next
class, I use the PDF game on the next slides. They LOVE this and
especially the BIG challenge. <br />

There also are printables for writing one note in each box to use in a follow-up lesson and then more sheets {for when you think they're
ready} where the students will be completing measures and composing measures in 2, 3, 4/4 meter. I would suggest that you project an example so the students understand to fill their character boxes with the correct amount of beats. Perfect quick
assessments. And as a thank you for purchasing these files, I've included "Rhythm Reindeer Rhythm Cards" for you to print and use as whole group practice, in centers, as a game, or any other way you'd like! {My littles asked me if they could keep them and color them - lol!}<br />

Next, some resources by another awesome music teacher! If you haven't discovered McPherson's Music Room yet, oh man - you've got to check out her interactive products! They've changed my teaching for the better. Let me tell you about one I have and love and another I'm going to purchase tomorrow during the TpT Cyber Sale. She's got melody and rhythm files that are amazing for visual/aural learners. My students ask me to play over and over again. Last week, with first grade, I used her<span style="font-size: small;"> <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Whooo-do-you-hear-Melody-Sol-Mi-La-PowerPoint-1090482" target="_blank">Whooo do you hear? Melody Sol Mi La (PowerPoint). </a></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPIOFKfqiDI_6BSVIgC8Zcq4xCjqfNe2jv-cWOx7mTWKy5SpB40XyMih_j0AizN3z_PCO01LhWhOOdkmP52KSCCqi2iQn39SUqcEWMKxUc1IL9Fl44gPdv2z1FtTjUsjloRKQvjJ1AcN0/s1600/whodoyouhear.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPIOFKfqiDI_6BSVIgC8Zcq4xCjqfNe2jv-cWOx7mTWKy5SpB40XyMih_j0AizN3z_PCO01LhWhOOdkmP52KSCCqi2iQn39SUqcEWMKxUc1IL9Fl44gPdv2z1FtTjUsjloRKQvjJ1AcN0/s1600/whodoyouhear.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's so cute and awesome for aural identification/discrimination. Simply click on the moon, and there are 4 choices of owls with melodies notated for the students to look at and figure out which is correct. The sound effects are fantastic, the graphics and animations are always adorable and the game is so engaging for the students. I'm definitely going to purchase her newest files starring an adorable snowman! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifVB6c-ibqA4jdqle9POwFh-QbnxVqBAxIoSBt2Ivpt9Z33m7PPkucJgJMUBWOlxQl_kfu0gyzZqaLI78X-x8NqTKz7g31D9CWsaM9vIZD_7EhtTIpAycmXJmWIFbYzek6w_FTWj2poEM/s1600/dynamicsnowmen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifVB6c-ibqA4jdqle9POwFh-QbnxVqBAxIoSBt2Ivpt9Z33m7PPkucJgJMUBWOlxQl_kfu0gyzZqaLI78X-x8NqTKz7g31D9CWsaM9vIZD_7EhtTIpAycmXJmWIFbYzek6w_FTWj2poEM/s1600/dynamicsnowmen.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This file comes with not just one, but TWO powerpoint files! One for forte vs. piano and the other reinforces crescendo vs. decrescendo! How great to have listening examples for the students to identify these concepts ALL IN ONE PLACE! I don't know about you, but I get so frustrated with my iPod and CDs and shuffling or trying to find small sound clips...I don't have time for that. But THIS! It's ALL right here at my fingertips AND it's a GAME for the kids. I love when they have no clue that they're LEARNING while having so much fun. You've got to see how she animates these little guys. So cute. an interactive way to reinforce aurally recognizing dynamics with your
students in music and then assessing the concepts? They will love
watching the snowman move across the page trying to catch snowflakes! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifVB6c-ibqA4jdqle9POwFh-QbnxVqBAxIoSBt2Ivpt9Z33m7PPkucJgJMUBWOlxQl_kfu0gyzZqaLI78X-x8NqTKz7g31D9CWsaM9vIZD_7EhtTIpAycmXJmWIFbYzek6w_FTWj2poEM/s1600/dynamicsnowmen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And now, one last thing to include in my blog, a non-music product. Yup - you guessed it. Clip art. </div>
Ok - If there was a group called "Clip-Art-Addicts-Annonymous" -
yes, I'd be in it. I don't know if my poor computer can handle anymore
images! The fan is running constantly. Yep...I need a new one! I just
keep debating...PC or Mac?! Wah! I don't know what to do. I do; however, know what I want when it comes to clip art and these cuties from Susanna at <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Whimsy-Workshop-Teaching" target="_blank">Whimsy Workshop</a>, are on top of my list. <br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I couldn't believe that I COMPLETELY forgot to bring this out last year! I think what happens to me is that my brain can only hold so much information...like the memory in a computer. Mine lately truly feels the need for an update. Anyway, here "he" is....I present to you..."Ricky Recorder!!!!" (Said like "Ricky Ricardo" from "I Love Lucy," of course.) heehee.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuGIeVaiv8OY6by-bEZ_pjxFOErpflEEuE7i0LUoH_-inQnVdLZOvuoyy5kv3C1vkKk3Pet8YQYRJtyPo344wyAnYY9rc4kuM31hg76sEMvoeWMqoiHmCz_e6hm47l6o4LLnLvQGoZjo8/s1600/RickyRecorder+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuGIeVaiv8OY6by-bEZ_pjxFOErpflEEuE7i0LUoH_-inQnVdLZOvuoyy5kv3C1vkKk3Pet8YQYRJtyPo344wyAnYY9rc4kuM31hg76sEMvoeWMqoiHmCz_e6hm47l6o4LLnLvQGoZjo8/s1600/RickyRecorder+(2).JPG" width="476" /></a></div>
To help my students learn about the responsibility of having their own instrument, I like to have them think of their recorder as their own personal "Musical Pet." Then I ask them things they need to do with a "regular" pet.....and they say, "Take care of it" - Ok. Soooo, how do you take care of it? They usually list things like "Play with it, clean it, watch it." And I say, well, the same idea for your recorder. As your musical pet, you'll need to do some things. <br />
1) Play with it! It LOVES to be played with. Well, how? PLAY IT! How often does your dog like to played with? Every day. Or as I recently started to say, "only on the days you eat." ha!<br />
2) Watch over it. Know where your recorder is. Give it a "home." It should "Live" in your backpack. Like a dog house. When you're done "playing with it" put it back in your backpack. This truly has helped my students to remember to bring them to school.<br />
3) Clean it. Yes, children...it even needs to "take a bath!" Especially if you're sick.<br />
4) Let it rest. What? Well, like your pet needs to sleep, so does your recorder. If you're too frustrated with a song, take a break, let your recorder take a nap and go back to try again later.<br />
<br />
The first time I used the "Musical Pet" analogy the next day, the cutest thing happened. One of my students came in with googly eyes on their recorder. And she named it. And put a "leash" on it. It was the cutest thing ever. And so, "Ricky Recorder" was invented and the phenomenon of very clever recorder pets invaded my school. I loved seeing my students use their imaginations. And honestly, it connected them so much more to their instrument. Less children "forgot" to bring them to music because they were so excited about it being their OWN.<br />
<br />
So - I made the cute little "Ricky Recorder" character out of foam and googly eyes, put him on the poster board, wrote down his reminders (Left hand on top, etc.) added a piece of dry erase board (I cut it like a speech bubble) and each day when 4th grade came to music, I'd write a little "note" from Ricky about their goal for the day, or what to practice, etc.<br />
<br />
Well - "Ricky" Recorder will be coming to music again this year. I'm so glad I found him and hope you've enjoyed this cute little idea to help your kids with the responsibility of having an instrument. :) Do your students have their own or do you have to clean them and keep them in your music room? Do you have any great "recorder" tricks you'd like to share? I'd love to hear about them! Feel free to comment below!<br />

With the BIG Back to School TpT Sale going on right now, it's always an exciting time to go through my wishlist and grab a bunch of goodies! <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Totallytunedinteacher" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Totallytunedinteacher" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAy972K6Ix6wAcKc1frI0RUSKNcoabCjS2-qbQbvTWpEG36N0L6HrxNvgszPV9c0kCrAhDEQ4y2IQ_H50g-HazvsEUkgWaDxFGKgnEtOorK6XC6Vn36pY-H8uW8hYVWN9rsJZwxH8WHE4/s1600/B2S14SaleBanner.png" width="319" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A big thank you to Jena Hudson from <a href="http://sewmuchmusic.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">"Sew Much Music"</a> for the adorable graphic above!<br />
My entire store is 20% off plus with this code BTS14, you can get an
additional 8%! And my BUNDLES are already 20% discounted or
more...so...you could honestly save 48% on some of my products! I love
to be a smart shopper, don't you?! We call my Dad the "Coupon King"
because he sends me coupons in the mail. Isn't that so cute???<br />
<br />
So here are some products that you might like to have as you set up your music room this year!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Music-Word-Wall-Glittery-Music-Mega-Set-in-lavender-1317941" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Music-Word-Wall-Glittery-Music-Mega-Set-in-lavender-1317941" border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJC9NU2acjE-VzUKhsLVPkFbKSdvrsziTOLwU1NZ1znXFtGpXrfR-qez9yi5Bmn81Pq509CauEQldtG1Yykj4W2wUv-oUOU-Fs70ZML_XSw9T3v241g8iqNPdL7KJJl8aGXjiHEolbPwQ/s1600/OpenMefirst-CreditslavenderWWglitter.jpg" width="320" /></a> <span id="goog_6289706"></span><span id="goog_6289707"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyone need an eye-catching, sparkly MEGA set of music vocab for a <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Music-Word-Wall-Glittery-Music-Mega-Set-in-lavender-1317941" target="_blank">Word Wall</a>? I did and I went a teeny bit overboard! 282 Words that print BEAUTIFULLY. A great way to reinforce music vocabulary and of course, your Principal will be happy with that "reading" connection. Worried about ink? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There's an <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Music-Word-Wall-Ink-Saver-Glittery-Music-Mega-Set-1322581" target="_blank">INK SAVER version</a><a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Music-Word-Wall-Ink-Saver-Glittery-Music-Mega-Set-1322581" target="_blank"> </a>as well - and with this sale, it's actually 48% off! Holy Savings, Batman!</div>
<span id="goog_6289751"></span><span id="goog_6289752"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Note-Reading-Through-the-Seasons-Music-Assessment-LinesSpaces-1347574" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Note-Reading-Through-the-Seasons-Music-Assessment-LinesSpaces-1347574" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjREMo8W-YyPxv_vxcIPuZPNV90LWuK-5pC3uiK8SPv8lb0hjyjuw_EUWNWnA-I0obLV5RuqukRke8StkNfYSdtSrOsmuHqHDw3D_HOiRwSbfi0b4jChe0XtMiJfYW2hGsYGsm-RnfAKuY/s1600/Slide1.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you click the above picture, it will take you to a HUGE bundle of Treble Clef "Note Reading" printables. One thing that I have NEVER gotten very good at is being prepared for being absent. Setting up for a sub is one thing, but with us, as I'm sure you've experienced, setting up for a non-musical music substitute is always a challenge. These printables are perfect quick assessments for elementary music teachers like me who see
their classes just once a week in a short block of time! BUT, they also could TOTALLY be useful for sub plans! I finally made folders for every month that I can grab easily if I'm going to be out sick and because there are over 44 pages, I grabbed a bunch to put in each folder - they're appropriate for many levels, too! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Rhythm-Fun-Through-the-Seasons-Music-Assessments-for-Rhythm-Values-1368371" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Rhythm-Fun-Through-the-Seasons-Music-Assessments-for-Rhythm-Values-1368371" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcPJEnnpUgZd7Tu7ceWGXl4JtdwR6UFX31OPl617VnvbnJYGOKmPFXdPeF0epdIsoiE7aDocP5X35rziiTUAsaep-B51rvasCVu39zZJLQG2royt2wphBSPzmDfJnfIM24fg64XXdujCU/s1600/Slide1.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
AND!!! I plop these into those folders, too! AND they're WONDERFUL for those days when your voice, just isn't 100%! The kids ask me for more. By popular demand, I bundled up all my "into Rhythm" and seasonal "Rhythm Fun" worksheets! These are SO MUCH FUN and this set, is made up of 10 PDF files - 131 pages of printable note reading/identifying/musical math FUN!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Note-Reading-Through-the-Seasons-Music-Assessment-LinesSpaces-1347574" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Note-Reading-Through-the-Seasons-Music-Assessment-LinesSpaces-1347574" border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSatVzAnqUDpjVXrg0ZyZX2kMb6SLK3jvoGnOFrUvLrS0LdVm_nnagf1RsJKHPuDvTlZ4KYda-lJva7Jn8RgNBGqq7DyYZa3anvIRG1FBxEuBjymSXuv3LOCBv6_6TXWWIVOqyu7Tvk4I/s1600/Slide2.JPG" width="150" /></a><a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Rhythm-Fun-Through-the-Seasons-Music-Assessments-for-Rhythm-Values-1368371" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Rhythm-Fun-Through-the-Seasons-Music-Assessments-for-Rhythm-Values-1368371" border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq8yfTVNfD3i-ygdy_EwaO38fa_k3jCcbIbjzD2Tkq8qIDvWPtlUZcDezqGjigwZsex6tvBTXuUmm_XFr748eFpLydQJ_wIYo8IZvVCUfkHcuY2BKyiIFG1Idr3YKvTssuv54qI_tjvj4/s1600/Slide2.JPG" width="150" /></a></div>
<br />
Now onto my MUST HAVES List! On my wishlist...is THIS "TREASURE" from Linda McPherson at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/McPhersonsMusicRoom" target="_blank">McPherson's Music Room</a>! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Treble-Clef-Treasures-Interactive-Music-Game-Assessment-1254689" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Treble-Clef-Treasures-Interactive-Music-Game-Assessment-1254689" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL17O-YeiNV8SE4EZn4sr_4y-aiVu77Arm1ZBliHWbSDYzk5uFtzT6zJfYAJuT8y1IKMAggrnJN7Y7ewq4yOW1VlM6Dg9wah7BLD3m-g7XsfcCVqcI5KNR3dRQzuFG3jro4J3uSN-g59s/s1600/Treblecleftreasures.jpg" width="320" /><span id="goog_6289805"></span></a><span id="goog_6289806"></span></div>
<br />
It's a GAME and ASSESSMENT and it's just......perfect for note reading engagement and FUN. My kids sure "ARRRRRRGH" going to be excited about this "treasure!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Treble-Clef-Notes-Matching-Game-Ice-Cream-Edition-1248560" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Treble-Clef-Notes-Matching-Game-Ice-Cream-Edition-1248560" border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIY6EqGP3e4-_lnr7QIBUiu7Cr6Z2v9gp8TrSdo-p9lXcJbn09jXX_mMhMFAVKX9RuHauvNArkME7CNaBtjhyphenhyphendvURflxCLqLRc3NzHVX4CZ0Q2nkD_Vf96CoaXf3weghLPH8h10Q_uBDc/s1600/trebleclefnotesicecream.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
AND this one, too! So adorable - from Elaine at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/MrsFordMelodies" target="_blank">Mrs. Ford's Melodies</a>, it's Treble Clef Notes Matching Game! It's such a cute ice cream themed game where students simply match the note
ice cream scoop with its name (ice cream cone). This
would be perfect for centers, flash cards, or as a quick and easy
assessment.<br />
<br />
And honestly, so many more that I seriously am starting to think I have an addiction to TpT. Oh wait! I think I already knew that! There's so much clip art in my wishlist, too! HELP! Creative people out there are definitely taking a tole on my wallet! But I love it and that "inspired" feeling I get when finding great "treasures" like the ones above. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So if you
have a wishlist, get it ready and go shopping!!! Most items could be up to 28% off!

Sometimes I have a really difficult time conquering those negative thoughts that happen throughout a day...isn't it terrible how one teeny comment can hurt and take up so much space in your brain and time of your life? I have had a goal for a very long time to keep the positives on the front lines of my thoughts - the "I love you, Mrs. Jones...will you sleep over tonight?" notes from 1st graders....the "You have the most beautiful singing voice, Mrs. Jones!" the "I want to be a music teacher when I grow up" the..."My daughters "play" Mrs. Jones at home and have music class!" Those are the moments that matter. And this one, is HUGE on that list of "positives" in my little musical world...today I walked back to the music room after lunch and on my door...was this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZdmbY9Y4nVWKS3BZx89q9t2pf7WJpRc6bNmsySmfEpRMNAmgBXJLSXgtiz77esKyR3tHtr7xCg9FvcaPxVHSbEnEic9YVDS-IPkY-NnT-L9oa8ZliGehl_dXUPJ6CftvMfQ9Cn7S2lEA/s1600/Musicaldoor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZdmbY9Y4nVWKS3BZx89q9t2pf7WJpRc6bNmsySmfEpRMNAmgBXJLSXgtiz77esKyR3tHtr7xCg9FvcaPxVHSbEnEic9YVDS-IPkY-NnT-L9oa8ZliGehl_dXUPJ6CftvMfQ9Cn7S2lEA/s1600/Musicaldoor.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One of my third grade classes made this for me - each heart was filled with a personal "thank you" and they turned them into music notes...how sweet was that??? I was so surprised. Of course, the classroom teacher is one of the most kind, caring, and thoughtful teachers you'll ever meet. They are very lucky students to have such a great role model and I am a very lucky elementary teacher to have such a wonderful colleague and friend. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I just needed to share this happy moment to let everyone know that even know it's not always said or expressed every day, you ARE appreciated. And to read their kind thoughts, makes me remember WHY I do what I do. I hope your days ahead at this very trying time of year are filled with many, MANY, happy moments! And if you want to share some here, please do! My "happy-o'meter" would love to be filled up!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's my opportunity to tell you about one of my newest products in my store. I am SO excited about these "Zoom to the Moon" Rhythm game sets. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the fun game sheet you would print for either individuals or partners. My kids LOVE these games and ask to play them often. The students are "astronauts" and each have space shuttles ready to cover the pattern they hear "ground control" (a.k.a. the music teacher or an individual) clap or play on an instrument. These games are great for rhythm reading practice and also for assessing how your students are doing with new rhythm concepts in a fun way that will not take up an entire class time as well as allow you the opportunity to easily assess through informal observation. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Each set comes with printable flashcards and some suggestions for using them along with the game and directions for play. Here's a pic of the flashcards you can print and laminate. By the way, don't you just LOVE the beautiful clip art from <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Glitter-Meets-Glue-Designs" target="_blank">Glitter Meets Glue Designs</a>? OMG - these print beautifully. </div>

<strong>Next: A Musical item on my wishlist:</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just discovered this one via Pinterest and can't wait to get it in my cart and give <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Vocal-ExplorationsSinging-Visual-Aids-World-of-Wizards-1130037" target="_blank">The Bulletin Board Lady - Tracy King</a> a well-deserved cha-ching: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEZ4xUfRXcbg4vgjbpswpGDORGMOQY4YZdRc7j1l4rHEGnMNt4ynePsUHiQHicpsoawZWltGSvV-Ol5UNtk7QbhjZ6Kb6E4Nvwd7Owj1zdWhau1kjMoI5bMNQ0NPgZCzpESKUE6md0FEA/s1600/wizardvocalizations.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEZ4xUfRXcbg4vgjbpswpGDORGMOQY4YZdRc7j1l4rHEGnMNt4ynePsUHiQHicpsoawZWltGSvV-Ol5UNtk7QbhjZ6Kb6E4Nvwd7Owj1zdWhau1kjMoI5bMNQ0NPgZCzpESKUE6md0FEA/s1600/wizardvocalizations.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They are SOOOO cute. I can't wait to see the whole set. I wonder where she found this adorable clip art??? The sample pics show Harry and Hermione with paths leading to Gryffindor - Tracy wrote "Follow the path of the characters as they make their way to Gryffindor" in her description and I can see my 3rd and 4th graders especially excited about this since so many of them seem to be into Harry Potter. I want to use these as warm ups before chorus next week! "Wingardium-leviosa!!!"</div>
<br />
And finally, a non-music item, but something ANY teacher could adapt for their particular subject! Have you seen "<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Build-a-Monster-Interactive-Whiteboard-whole-class-game-for-any-subject-1112505" target="_blank">Pink Cat Studio's</a>" interactive games??? If not, go see - I'm addicted! This one is so cute! I'm going to use it for note reading review and practice...I'll ask my students to name notes I place on the treble staff or for a strategy to read the notes from the treble clef staff...if a student can give me a strategy, they can go to the SMARTboard and click on an item to add to the monster! You end up with a different monster every time! My kids are going to go bananas for this game!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<strong><span style="font-size: large;">#1) Dice Storage</span></strong> </div>
<br />
This brilliant idea for dice storage and use! Hello! Why haven't I ever thought of this yet? Small containers, magnet on the back, stuck to a decorated cookie sheet! Kids are ready to play a game in centers and need dice - so they just go grab a container and know exactly where to put it away. This came from the adorable blog at <a href="http://www.teachingmaddeness.com/2014/02/organizing-classroom-games-bright-idea.html">http://www.teachingmaddeness.com/2014/02/organizing-classroom-games-bright-idea.html</a> <br />

<strong><span style="font-size: large;">#2) Adorable "Rockin' Note Paper!" And it's a freebie!</span></strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I saw this and thought it was so, so, sooo cute! And she gives you smaller sizes, too. Couldn't this be used for a GREAT newsletter background??? Thank you, <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Rockin-Notes-FREEBIE-152081" target="_blank">Hilary Lewis</a>. I love it and know I sure can use this cuteness for many, many purposes. I bet classroom teachers could, too!</div>

<strong><span style="font-size: large;">#3) Paint stick library separators</span></strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yet another pinterest gem! Simple - just plain paint sticks and alphabet stickers. I had used folders with tabs to separate my music library into holidays, seasons, Mallet Madness stories, listening, etc, but they would get pushed back and lost in the books. This. Is. So. Smart. </div>
<br />

<strong><span style="font-size: large;">#4) "Recorder Corner"</span></strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is my newest "want-to-do" for my own classroom. I just wish I had another wall! Everything recorder related, including fingerings posters all in one place. Another one with no source - if it's your pic, please let me know! </div>

<strong><span style="font-size: large;">#5) ipod Goals Display</span></strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Gift boxes and goals. Adorable. Wouldn't this be awesome in the music room? Yes, I'm working on one as well and will post a pic soon. I would suggest using either "whiteboard" erasable paper that you can use dry eraser markers on or velcro on the backs to change out the goals....OR post the national standards for Music in Our Schools month. So many possibilities. Another great pin...and no source. But bravo! Love it!</div>

Here are my 5 Favorite Pins this month:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><strong>#1 <span style="font-size: x-large;">Before You Tell the Teacher...</span></strong></span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-size: large;">Man, oh man! Since we have gotten back from winter break I felt as if I needed a tape recorder since I kept saying over and over, did you try to solve the problem? I saw this on pinterest and was SO happy to add it as a quick and easy reminder for my little guys. Now I simply point if there is a little wide-eyed friend tugging at me (as I'm in the middle of a song...ahem!) LOL. This pin is from "The Littlest Scholars" Blog - just click the picture and it takes you to the blog where you can download and print this great poster for your classroom!</span> <br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong><span style="font-size: x-large;">#2 Recorder Clip Art</span></strong><br />
Talk about perfect timing! It's almost time for "Recorder Karate! at my school!" I was psyched to see that Denise at <a href="http://www.dancingcrayon.com/" target="_blank">Dancing Crayon</a> created this very kid-friendly set! I love them and can use them for soooo many activities. Click the pic to grab these goodies!<br />

<br />
<strong><span style="font-size: x-large;">#3 Unlock the Door - Syncopa Version</span></strong><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So I am a big fan of Aileen Miracle's TpT products and let me tell you, last year, when I found her first version of "Unlock the Door" I was hooked! My kids worked SO hard to figure out which key had the correct rhythm. Such a fun way for your students to practice syncopated rhythms. Each page has a key with a notated rhythm pattern - the students listen to a sound clip and have to choose which "key" will unlock the door! It's adorable and engaging, and perfect to assess your student's skills.</span><br />

<br />
<strong><span style="font-size: x-large;">#4 Monster Invastion Composing</span></strong><br />
What a find! I pinned immediately and did not regret it. David at Make Moments Matter, has a great blog with tons of ideas for your music room. After reading this post about his "Monster Invasion" game, I went bananas and ran out to the Dollar Tree to grab some "monsters" of my own. You see, well the only way to get rid of the monsters invading the music room is to compose your own 4 measure pattern! Check out the directions for this game and I guarantee you'll be inspired to make your own set and your students will have a great time COMPOSING (we all know we need more composing in our lessons!) and having time to be creative! I'm thinking about extending the activity to have the students add the solfege and turn them into "Melody Monsters" and sing and play their compositions on instruments. Exciting!!! Thank you for the GREAT post, David!!! <br />

<strong><span style="font-size: x-large;">#5 The Dum-Dum Song!</span></strong> So I stumbled upon this pin one night and after watching it, my first thought, "I am TOTALLY teaching this to my 4th grade chorus!!! ha!!!" I think I will teach them just a little bit at a time during warm-ups, and add onto it each time we meet. What a fun and engaging challenge. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is always such a positive, uplifting experience for my sweet little school community. I love how music truly brings us all together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I do love it, but I have to be honest and tell you, my fellow musical readers, that over the next 3 weeks, I have to find many, many different ways to not go insane from singing the same songs with many many grade levels. It's also a challenge to get the kids to memorize music selections quickly, yet musically, when you see them once a week; however, I'm really hoping that this year especially, it will bring us all a lot of laughter and happiness like it has in the past. </div>

Here's one of my newest creations for note reading practice: It's called "G Clef Gobblers" and I was laughing as I made one page of it trying to come up with what a turkey would rather us eat on Thanksgiving. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/G-Clef-Gobblers-Note-Reading-Turkeys-961759"><img alt="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/G-Clef-Gobblers-Note-Reading-Turkeys-961759" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdzj2lYX8rQEnNIfAYACD7OGzzAXA1qXIPQeZl6xLflsx7lqO5cFaNSvEc_5MnAAzjwoq9z2pyZHpM7KOwUka-3MB-XWJRoglRK86uT2BQAzWM51L5uDx-uBpStclRMt8n_4Cec_xth6A/s320/GClefGobblers.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have found lately that one of the best things to do to keep charge in my batteries, is to slow down. And watching the kids laugh as they were figuring out what the turkey suggested they should eat on Thanksgiving, was one of the things that definitely helped me last week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's been quite a whirlwind since my last post and I apologize if anyone has missed me! LOL! I don't know if I'm just talking to myself here or what, but my hope is that if there are readers reading my posts, that you find some of my ideas for your classroom helpful and inspiring. </div>

I can still think back to running around the yard, suddenly stopping and breathing in that "scent" in the air - I would tell my Dad, "I smell Halloween, Dad!" And get so, so, so excited that it was almost time for Halloween. <br />

And now...the big reveal! Singing Snoopy, the music room mascot has a new house! <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNZh6_p9Pj5ZYNi05EyotFrV_Khu9EjEKP8dlv5McQCSo9bwOQBKiRPgSwRDIQ_GgpfEOfXVwxCUfAAt8wXWW4mz9RyuO0fKWozMCZJwQTRl2AikfLRvj92ZOUrVilhfAxff3Nlf3lY5o/s640/blogger-image--1684083632.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNZh6_p9Pj5ZYNi05EyotFrV_Khu9EjEKP8dlv5McQCSo9bwOQBKiRPgSwRDIQ_GgpfEOfXVwxCUfAAt8wXWW4mz9RyuO0fKWozMCZJwQTRl2AikfLRvj92ZOUrVilhfAxff3Nlf3lY5o/s400/blogger-image--1684083632.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
Once upon a time, in the land of music, there was an adorable dog and his name, was "Singing Snoopy." The truth is that his true name, was originally "Singing Sammy," but the very first time I introduced him to a class, Singing Snoopy came out of my mouth instead and well, it stuck. <br />
AND...it WORKS! <br />
See, "Snoopy," the music room mascot, is not like other dogs. He is always "snooping" for "Snooper Star" singers in the music room. You know - the kind of kids that are sitting up tall, singing with their best singing voices, and hard workers. Snoopy can only talk to me - and I understand Snoopy language. He tells me songs he wants to hear the class sing, he notices kids who are trying really hard that day, and well, of course, he does his very own special "Snoopy celebration dance" when the music makes him happy. <br />
The children love when his ears go up while he's listening to their singing! <br />
<br />
Singing Snoopy has been a very, very special part of my classroom and teaching for almost 14 years now and well, it was time for him to have special recognition for helping my classes run smoothly. <br />
About two years ago, a little girl came into my classroom one day with the biggest smile on her face and presented me with a "dog house" for Snoopy. She was so excited to give him his handmade "dog house" and giggled as she showed me. So clever and sweet. But then, well, it became a "thing" among students to "make Snoopy a home." Oh my goodness! By the end of last year, I had more "Snoopy houses" than I knew what to do with (Imagine a "Snoopy Mansion" with windows and doors made out of a giant cardboard box). I had to somehow help the kids understand that I enjoyed their creativity and Snoopy was very grateful, but he didn't need any more new houses! <br />
Soooo...I came up with the idea of having my father-in-law build a dog house this past summer (designed by my very talented hubby) and once the kids saw it the first day of school I had a story ready about Snoopy's plan to buy a new home.<br />
<br />
Well, Snoopy's "family" has since grown, and it was time for Snoopy to put his dog house on realtor.com and sell it so he could hire a builder (my father in-law) and a decorator (yours truly) to build him his new home. Snoopy has a wife and many mini-snoopy-versions which have come to me as gifts from my singers! I think it's so sweet and funny at the same time. I love that they adore him - they write him letters and draw him pictures. And make him dog bones AND furniture for his house! ha! And yes, he has a mailbox, too! (I'll admit it - yes, I'm jealous - he gets more mail than I do.) The best is when they write him songs and rhythm patterns, of course! Adorable. <br />
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The "Snooperson Family"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Snoopy, Snoopy, jr. and Snoopy jr.-jr. (LOL!!!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll take some more pics of the rest of the family and post them soon. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My next project involving Singing Snoopy is going to be creating "Snoopy-Grams." I want to send home little notes to students when Snoopy finds a "Snooper-star Singer." I am just not exactly sure how to manage that piece yet...should I do one every music class and keep a checklist? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Any suggestions are welcome! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>What is something unique you do in your classroom that has turned into an awesome classroom management tool?</strong> I never expected "Singing Snoopy" to become such an invaluable part of my teaching! Even my 4th graders still like him. </div>
Teeny J.http://www.blogger.com/profile/02628778404387759906noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1995132753585991230.post-51403569311832048172013-09-22T18:30:00.002-07:002018-04-15T18:57:20.248-07:00Popsicle Stick Seating Idea<div style="text-align: center;">
I was so incredibly happy when this beautiful carpet became a part of my music room. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One day, last year, I was thinking about how competitive some of my students were when they would walk into the room and race to get to a certain spot on the carpet. Not only did it become a safety concern, but it was incredibly time consuming and draining to have to continuously reiterate or have students model how to walk in and choose a seat wisely.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOqNlzGJCEtuJjUrPScQVeeWfcQTKv90eKptWzAD9tlgra-OF5IOLSxZKcCZHeN1nMem6KWI5hhc4iPVXBpZMhRsCPSE7xeyOM3qi60GtlU1n5PNV4fUIVSoNp-6AY4_xUlJ-KdLmOgiw/s1600/carpetseating1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOqNlzGJCEtuJjUrPScQVeeWfcQTKv90eKptWzAD9tlgra-OF5IOLSxZKcCZHeN1nMem6KWI5hhc4iPVXBpZMhRsCPSE7xeyOM3qi60GtlU1n5PNV4fUIVSoNp-6AY4_xUlJ-KdLmOgiw/s400/carpetseating1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I decided to solve that problem by making these popsicle sticks "choose" for them. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now, the students come in at the beginning of the year, take a popsicle stick, walk in, find their own special "music spot" and as long as it works out where they are seated near others they work well with, they can keep their spots each music. Once I trust the group later in the year, (especially with upper elementary kids) I'll surprise them and let them choose their own spot. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="center">
One afternoon, I walked around my carpet and took individual pictures of each symbol. Then, I printed them out, mounted them on white cardstock, laminated them and attached them to large popsicle sticks. Not only are they useful for seating choice, but for choosing turns for games!!! </div>
<div align="center">
It's been so nice! Certain classes are more competitive with others, so choosing in a very random way takes care of this issue. It's fantastic.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhijm-9m8LDv54wwJn8YIDF_vqmOQcrrQC2Uws0yncsBrt_YMh-qigY7qX3GiL_00Hp11kr9qiiV06Au8ypyXI8YTn8qQUZs6M6jOfYKlkE5K40OXH68zywFUbtMXIChQN0pDKf-nRCeAg/s1600/carpetseating2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhijm-9m8LDv54wwJn8YIDF_vqmOQcrrQC2Uws0yncsBrt_YMh-qigY7qX3GiL_00Hp11kr9qiiV06Au8ypyXI8YTn8qQUZs6M6jOfYKlkE5K40OXH68zywFUbtMXIChQN0pDKf-nRCeAg/s400/carpetseating2.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Check out the seating chart I created below. It's perfect to leave for a sub. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You are more than welcome to use it to fit your needs if you have the same circle carpet. I couldn't seem to attach it to this blog post, but if you comment below, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'd be happy to share it with you via email! </div>

Blank Treble Staff<br />
Click on the picture below to upload this FREE pdf file<br />
This prints beautifully! <br />
I use water bottle caps as music notes for the students to place on the staff. <br />
They are the perfect size for this printable.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Blank-Treble-Staff-Freebie-854218" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSeLQAHeNw1ioH0bQQP6oFpY3krmzr7eJje08AVtIP8AhIVnA8l8vVu85NN92iPUsw4y40VKK_RIa0vvpHTOUrIm1xvZWryeV8-DXjmJPFIQTDT59JA3V3bcz6RrwL8Ctqc7cA5Snh86A/s320/Blank+Treble+Staff.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love using a large blank treble staff when first introducing note reading to my students. You can print these out, laminate for longer use, pass them out to individuals and do all kinds of note reading activities with manipulatives. I am all about re-using and recycling and had my students help me collect water bottle caps one year. I took them home and bleached them (LOL - yes, yes, I'm a germ-a-phobe!) and we use them as notes to place on these staves! That hands-on kinesthetic approach works wonders for so many kids - they are so engaged "placing" their "notes" on the staff. (And yes, of course, there are always a couple who are busy stacking them and tossing them and rolling them across the carpet. Do I tell them to stop? I'll be honest, if they are showing me respect, by looking at me while I'm speaking, demonstrating understanding, and not distracting others, eh...what does it matter if they "play" a little bit? Go ahead, stack 'em as high as you can, but make sure you can tell me how you got the correct answer. I mean, I feel like children don't have enough time to play anymore...they seem to be so incredibly over-scheduled and truthfully, I'm sure I was one of those kids, too! ha!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can even write the letter names on the caps in sharpie marker for differentiation purposes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Enjoy! Just click on the picture above and it should take you to my TpT store where you can download it for free.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Remember if you click on the little red star under my store name, you'll be notified when I've added new products to my TpT store. Did you know that you get TpT credits every time you leave feedback for an item? I didn't know that for a very long time! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Those credits can be used toward a purchase as a discount! Save them up, buy lots of your favorite tpt items and clip art and files and get $ off your total - woohoo. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Easy way to save a little bit of money, right?!?!? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Happy Labor Day!</div>

<br />
Here's a quick assessment I like to use to find out where my students are at the beginning of the year.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Note-Reading-Music-Assessment-LinesSpaces-818946" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFjk_foUokKYzeUJ5zfUGknrRtQh5Lgh9XyPJN5cAMLgDyj2DMjCe-Rv83daNVKsGhLmV4h4IN8VU9q0hICLaD6YoHTRac8fLccrL9noy-1StaZug7qVXSWFM9l0Meyc0SWYtgMGYouZg/s200/notereadingwksht.jpg" width="153" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Note-Reading-Music-Assessment-LinesSpaces-818946">ttp://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Note-Reading-Music-Assessment-LinesSpaces-818946</a><br />
<br />
The possibilities are endless when it comes to how to reinforce note reading skills. I have seen so many BRILLIANT teacher's ideas posted and reposted all over the internet, I don't know how we lived without it in the past! <br />
<br />

I finally found what I've been looking for...and, the best part, you ask? I was able to build them all by myself!!! Lol...of course, not without a silly story...in true totally-tuned-in fashion.<br />

Voila!!! What do you think?!? I am so incredibly excited to get back into school on Monday during our non-directed teacher day...And organize the instruments into the drawers. And I am sure I will have room for other things! But my question for you all...how should I label these drawers??? Hmmmm. They look so nice just plain and simple...but I feel like I will absolutely need to put in place a system for the kids to find things in the music room! Lol...can u imagine if I said..."oh, go look in the purple drawer" to a student??? It would take forever! Soooo...help! Any ideas welcome! </div>

Just as I was about to give up on getting crafty tonight...somehow, just picking up a pencil and putting it to paper got me in my zone....and of course, it's almost 1:00! Lol. After I type this post, yes, yes, I'll go to bed. But I just wanted to share a little preview of my bulletin board theme for this year.<br />

Heeheeeheee! Well, I sure hope this little guy will get that message across! I was inspired by clip art and paper pieced him together... How cute is that iPod??? Thank you, Glitter Meets Glue Designs! She seriously has the coolest clip art I've ever seen. I don't know how she does it. Well, I've got about 3 characters finished and still need to work on many more, plus the title and all my details to make this "Musical Jungle" come to life! Hopefully before we go back to school. Thanks for looking! If you have any ideas you think I should include, please feel free to share!!! I love collaborating and get so inspired by all the amazing teachers out there.</div>

I then run back in to wash my hands as fast as lightning and have to compose myself to walk back into my class and act like, "Oh yeah, I can pay attention now...even though I just had a traumatic experience in a bathroom at school!" I...cannot...walk into a CVS without walking down the seasonal aisle. So now...you can either laugh at me for being absolutely insane, or do the right thing and comment on this post saying you do the same thing, too and I am not as crazy as I think I am! Yes, yes...I think that would be greatly appreciated! Lol!<br />
<div>
So...I think the reason I was thinking about this is because it happened again. I went to CVS to return something, but just HAD to take a little swing around the store first...and where did I end up...yup. Right in front of all the cute summer stuff in the center of the store. Well don't think I didn't notice they were just starting to change it over and put out the dreaded, yet quite enticing "back to school" supplies...but that could not pull me away from this. Yes, this below, is what grabbed my attention:</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

No...it's a fan! Wait!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It is a flower fan!!! And I could NOT resist its adorable-ness! And oh yes, I must add, you can plug it into your USB port on your computer. So yeah...I did my return, and basically did a trade...for this flower fan. For my desk at school. Uh huh. And know what? That right there is an example of the "little things" that make me happy. (or a little insane.). Hahaha!</div>
